This detailed and sunny view of Newcastle is painted from high above St. Mary's Church, on the Gateshead bank. Steam trains are passing over the top deck of the High Level Bridge, and traffic can be seen on the lower road deck of the bridge. The new Swing Bridge is swivelled to allow a ship to pass.
